**The Dachstein - a glacier full of possibilities!

Your perfect day trip on the Dachstein begins with a “convertible feeling” during the ascent on the roof of the panoramic gondola. This continues with breathtaking views from the Skywalk and the Dachstein suspension bridge, before floating into “infinity” on the stairway to nowhere. During the detour to the Ice Palace, you can marvel at the mystical world of ice before admiring the Dachstein UNESCO World Heritage Site once again during the gondola descent, fortified by a snack in the Dachstein Glacier Restaurant!

Important In order to cope with the rush of visitors in the summer months (May to September), a gondola reservation is essential.

Exhibition 2024 in the Ice Palace on the Dachstein: Explore the glacier

In the current exhibition, which was designed together with La Strada Graz and the Universalmuseum Joanneum Graz, you will follow in the footsteps of the Alpine explorer Friedrich Simony and take a look at the many facets of the glacier together with him.

Friedrich Simony was the first glacier and ice age researcher in Austria. His observations of the Hallstatt Glacier, known in his day as the “Karls Ice Field”, which lasted five decades, are of particular importance. His graphic and photographic documentation made it possible to trace the retreat of an Eastern Alpine glacier with rare accuracy.

The 14 stations of the Ice Palace provide numerous facts and figures on glacier development, background information on glaciology and insights into life in the ice.
