SKI AREA SONNENKOPF

The family ski area with a diverse range of leisure activities!

The now widely known and popular family ski area Sonnenkopf is located right at the foot of the world-famous Arlberg.

Thanks to its ideal altitude (up to 2,300 m), Sonnenkopf is one of the few natural snow ski areas and is highly popular. Its perfect topographical location makes it extremely snow-sure. Insiders particularly appreciate the excellent snow quality well into late spring. By the way, the price-performance ratio is impressive too! The Arlberg Ski Pass and the 3-Täler Ländle Pass are also valid at Sonnenkopf. You can check the current snow conditions live on ORF 2.

SKIING, CARVING, SNOWBOARDING…
With modern lifts and a fantastic variety of slopes, Sonnenkopf has become a meeting point for all passionate winter sports enthusiasts. Whether little skiers or slope masters – beginners or pros – everyone can enjoy their personal skiing experience here. The longest run, the Vermalen Descent, is 11 km long and a real challenge. Between the start at Glattingrat and the finish at the valley station, there is an altitude difference of over 1,300 meters.

BLACK RUN
The highly selective slope known as the “Bäraloch” is about 800 m long. With a gradient of 60–70 %, this steep slope is one of the steepest runs in Austria—a true challenge for experienced skiers!

FREERIDING
Sonnenkopf is also considered one of the most beautiful freeride ski areas. Backcountry fans can enjoy pristine powder slopes to their heart’s content.

TOBOGGAN RUN
A fantastic toboggan run completes the leisure offerings at Sonnenkopf. The 2 km long run from the mountain to the mid-station, with several steep sections, is a real highlight. Stop at the Bündthütte for pure alpine hut fun. Toboggan rentals are available.

WINTER HIKING TRAILS
Nature lovers can enjoy three beautiful winter hiking trails. The 7 km trail to the Muttjöchle summit cross is considered one of the most beautiful winter trails. Away from the slopes, in the tranquility of nature, you can recharge your energy. The trails feature cozy resting benches.

GASTRONOMY
In three mountain restaurants, visitors can enjoy friendly service, typical Austrian coziness, and culinary delights in stunning surroundings. The new mountain restaurant on the Sonnenkopf plateau invites guests to relax. The ice bar next to the restaurant is also worth a visit. For a traditional hut stop, the rustic Bündthütte is perfect. The Muttjöchle service restaurant, with a large sun terrace near the Riedkopf chairlift top station, is another highlight. It can also be reached on foot via the Muttjöchle winter hiking trail.
