Ramingstein is located in the border triangle of Salzburg, Styria and Carinthia. The village is nestled in the Lungau Nockberge mountains and consists of four hamlets: Kendlbruck, Madling, Karneralm and Ramingstein. Ramingstein was first mentioned in documents in 1139. Above the village stands Finstergrün Castle, which is the village's landmark and Austria's "living" castle or youth hostel.

From the 15th to the end of the 18th century, mining flourished in Ramingstein. Iron mining was carried out in Kendlbruck in the rear Mühlbach Valley, and Ramingstein was home to lead and silver mining sites. In the Middle Ages, Ramingstein was one of the largest mining areas in the Alpine countries. In 1841, the municipality was ravaged by a terrible forest fire, and it was not until the beginning of the 20th century that Ramingstein slowly recovered from this event.

Today, the silver mine is open to the public as a show mine, offering an insight into the mining history of the time. The resulting silver market is a small but charming market that focuses on mining traditions and topics such as jewellery, minerals, craftsmanship, etc. every year, making it an interesting market day for everyone. The "old" ore trails are accessible again and, with a historic stamp mill and an adventure playground, have become an excursion destination for the whole family.

Ramingstein, which has set itself the goal of realising the dreams of its citizens and visitors, is a very progressive community where tradition is also held in high regard. With its "village of artists", Ramingstein has developed into an art and culture centre far beyond the borders of the region in recent years. Theatre, exhibitions, symposia and workshops have established themselves here and offer an attractive cultural programme, for which the town has already received several awards.

Away from the major ski centres, you can experience peace and relaxation at the Karneralm in the Lungau Nockberge Mountains. The interplay of nature and sport is unique. This area with its "round mountains" is ideal for safe ski tours and snowshoe hikes, even for beginners.

The natural snow satisfies the longing for leisure, fun and relaxation, while preserving the authenticity of this region. But even in summer, the Karneralm is a wonderful hiking and nature paradise for the whole family.
