Welcome to the city of onions! Our nickname 'ajuin' (onion) dates back to the 19th century when the city and districts around Aalst flourished thanks to onion farming. It is a true honour to be called an
'Ajoin' in the Aalst dialect!

Enjoy our local nature! You can escape the busy city for a while and relax in the city park, the Gerstjens and the woods of the Kravaalbos. The city park is home to over 100 species of trees. The adjoining Osbroek nature reserve is a real paradise for walkers and cyclists.
