Deutsches Verpackungs-Museum

From an architectural point of view alone, a visit to the German Packaging Museum is worthwhile. Right in the heart of Heidelberg's old town, the museum vividly presents the history of the beautiful shells and the achievements of those involved. In the historic premises of a former "Nothkirche", the museum shows the packaging of goods as a reflection of the cultural development of our society.

The diverse functions of packaging are presented as well as the historical development: packaging as a necessity but also as the result of a creative and artistic achievement.

Packaging is more than just transport containers: it reflects the thinking, life and culture of the time. Many important artists, such as Ludwig Hohlwein, have designed packaging and elevated it from a commodity to a work of art.

Securing these artefacts of the industrial age and making them accessible to the public is the task of the German Packaging Museum in Heidelberg. Technical innovations have also repeatedly influenced the function and face of the product covers. In the museum you will therefore also find those "milestones" that impressively illustrate the achievement of human creativity through unusual or inventive approaches.
